Description

The establishment of the first university in Saudi Arabia was a response to the educational and professional needs of the young country. Abdulaziz Al Saud, who became king in 1932, began work on modernizing his country and forming an education system. In 1953, after Abdulaziz's death, his eldest son Saud ascended the throne. Soon he founded the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Education. Prince Fahd, who would later become king himself, was appointed the first Minister of Education. At the first meeting of the Council of Ministers, he said: "We will soon create the first university in Saudi Arabia, it is inevitable. This university will become one of the leading centers of culture and science, worthy of our country, which is the source of light of the Islamic faith and civilization." So, the first university appeared in the Kingdom — King Saud University.
